The iconic exhibition, known as the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gemstone Exhibition, was held in September. But temporarily, the event will be moved from Hong Kong to Singapore from 27 to 30 September. This will make the event as accessible as possible to international exhibitors and visitors.
In Hong Kong there is a mandatory quarantine for incoming travellers. But Singapore allows fully vaccinated visitors to enter the country without testing and quarantine. Singapore EXPO is the venue for the exhibition, spread over 35,000 square metres.
The one-off change of venue received overwhelming support from the industry. This was revealed by the organiser of Informa Markets Jewellery and industry representatives at an online press conference on 19 July.
Prior to the Singapore event, Informa will hold a special exhibition in Hong Kong from 16 to 19 September. This event will target local trade buyers and jewellery enthusiasts.
The full version of the JGW will return to Hong Kong in September 2023.
The one-off change of venue is unprecedented, but the strong support for the show from the industry is impressive. Some 1,000 exhibitors from nearly 30 countries and regions will be participating. The presence of international buyers responsible for sourcing jewellery and gemstones is also assured.
“After almost three years, JGW Singapore offers suppliers and professional buyers a fresh start. This will enable them to gain business knowledge and inspiration and explore real opportunities for long-term partnerships.” These are the words of David Bondi, senior vice president of Informa Markets in Asia.
Joining the online press conference to celebrate the industry's reunion in Singapore was Ho Nai Chuen, President of the Singapore Jewellers Association. Also Paolo Passuello, president of the Gold & Silver Italian Group.
SJA's Ho commented: “Following the Hong Kong Expo in Singapore in September, the Singapore F1 Grand Prix will be held in 2022. Therefore, the entire EXPO hall will surely be packed with all the interested buyers.”.
Passuello added that JGW Singapore gives Gold & Silver Italian Group members the opportunity to reconnect with their clients in Asia for the first time since 2019. The consortium represents more than 100 gold and silver jewellers from the champions of Italian exports.
JGW Singapore, which will take place at the Singapore EXPO, will showcase a wide range of products across all major product categories.
It will include loose diamonds in almost every quality range. Even colored gemstones, from the classic ruby, sapphire and emerald to other gemstones. Also pearls of all varieties as well as single gemstones, matching designs, chains and loose pieces.
Shoppers will also find ready-made jewelry, in styles that cover unique items. Even vintage and everyday essentials, antique and vintage collections and silver creations. They will also find sources for lab-grown diamonds, tools and equipment, and technological solutions, among other things.
Most importantly, it's an opportunity for buyers to be in touch with the people who bring the industry to life.
Divided into more than 20 sections for easy browsing, the exhibition features pavilions representing, among others, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, Colombia, Germany and Hong Kong.
Also the International Coloured Diamond Association (ICA), India, the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI), Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Thailand, Turkey and the USA.
An important spot for retailers, brands and affluent shoppers is also the Premier Pavilion. A space that brings together some of the top names in luxury jewellery and gemstone manufacturing, as well as separate product zones.
In addition to Singapore, Informa Markets Jewellery is heading to Thailand this year for the Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Bangkok (JGAB) exhibition. This debuts from 2 to 5 November at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).
JGAB is a B2B cash-and-carry event that allows shoppers from South East Asia and beyond to instantly replenish their stocks for the Christmas and New Year period. The Bangkok show is the industry's last wholesale market exhibition for the year.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, preparations are in full swing for the special edition of JGW Hong Kong. The show will take place from 16 to 19 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
In fact, it will be done in accordance with Hong Kong's restrictions on international arrivals and cross-border travel. It aims to create opportunities and on-site sales for suppliers. It also opens its doors to jewellery enthusiasts, in addition to the core trade audience of wholesalers, retailers and brands.
