The Swiss retailer is working with Santiago Calatrava. The architect of the Oculus station at New York's Ground Zero for the white gold watch.
Swiss luxury jeweller Gübelin has created a beautiful limited edition watch designed by architect Santiago Calatrava.
Calatrava has designed buildings all over the world. He is perhaps best known for the visually stunning Oculus station at Ground Zero in New York City.
He also designed the City of Arts and Sciences seaside complex in his hometown of Valencia.
The Gübelin Ipsomatic with a platinum case is his first watch.
It is named Ipsomatic after a historical model built by Gübelin in the mid-20th century.
It is limited to 170 pieces. That is the number of years since Gübelin was founded in Lucerne.
The watch is also powered by a historic automatic movement from the Swiss company Felsa, which specialises in curves.
It is also accompanied by an innovative proof of authenticity. It combines analog markers with digital blockchain technology. So that the watches are invisibly marked and certified in a way that is not susceptible to counterfeiting.
Calatrava said: «The watch is one of the most popular watches made by the company. So working with a company that has such a long tradition and has been run by the same family for generations has been both a pleasure and a challenge for me. To find yet another proposition that declares Gübelin's high quality over time. I was inspired by the idea of time. Time exists because there is change. Change means movement, the eternal essence of time is the dynamic element of its form.».
Raphael Gübelin, president of Gübelin, added. «The launch of our own watch with its iconic shape, designed by Santiago Calatrava, marks another milestone for our company. With its contemporary design, historic Felsa movement and proof of authenticity, the Ipsomatic unites history, the present and the future.».
