Australian mining company Rio Tinto has unveiled a one-of-a-kind yellow and pink diamond ring that showcases the finest gemstones from its iconic diamond mines.
Under the name Diavik Midnight SunTM, the ring symbolizes the union of two of the most coveted diamonds in the world. namely the yellow diamonds from Rio Tinto's Diavik diamond mine in subarctic Canada. Also pink Argyle diamondsTM from the legendary Australian mine that closed in 2020.
Inspiration is the natural phenomenon of the golden and pink hues of the sun at midnight in the Arctic.
The Diavik Midnight Sun features an oval 18.08 carat yellow diamond in a fancy intense yellow shape. But Rio Tinto describes it as one of the best large yellow diamonds from the Diavik mine in the last 20 years. The Diavik yellow diamond originally weighed 36.75 carats as a rough diamond. Here it is flanked by rare pink Argyle diamonds weighing a total of 4.09 carats.
The ring is a collaboration between Rio Tinto, the luxury jeweller Musson, an Argyle Pink Diamonds Select AtelierTM, and rare gem specialist Glajz THG, as part of Rio Tinto's Icon Partner programme.
The Diavik Midnight Sun, worth A$1.85 million (approximately US$1.26 million). Musson is offering it for sale as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
