The “Inoveo Platinum” alloy was created by the platinum mining company Anglo American, together with the designer and materials developer Alloyed. The aim is to address the challenges shared by designers and jewellers in working with platinum.
Its alloy composition gives it the usability of white gold, PGI USA said. But it also enhances platinum's key properties, including its natural white color, durability and wear resistance.
«The launch of Inoveo Platinum provides the jewellery industry with the best of what platinum offers as the world's most precious metal. But it also provides the ease of processing that manufacturers and designers expect in production,» said Jenny Luker, president of PGI USA.
«We believe this is a turning point for the use of platinum in jewellery making. So we look forward to an increase in new platinum offerings in the market in the near future.».
The advantages of the new alloy include up to four times less porosity and four times higher production efficiency. While Inoveo Platinum is 40 % harder than standard platinum alloys.
It also provides molders with a smoother, more consistent fullness. Because of its lower melting temperature and high fluidity, PGI said.
Because it allows for faster polishing and solidification, there is a lower rejection rate. That is compared to standard platinum alloys, the agency said.
«We are proud to have shaped the composition behind Inoveo Platinum, as co-creators with Alloyed.» Says Benny Oeyen, executive head of market development at Anglo American.
«This formulation was developed with the aim of enhancing the manufacturing experience for manufacturers of white gold jewellery. We are therefore excited to attend the launch of this alloy to the jewellery industry at JCK Las Vegas.».
Inoveo Platinum will be available exclusively through Stuller in the US for manufacturers, designers and jewellers. Starting this summer.
«Stuller is excited to bring this new platinum alloy to the market,» said Belit Myers, Stuller's CEO.
«Inoveo Platinum will transform the manufacture of white gold jewellery. So we are proud to be at the forefront of this innovation in the industry.».
The alloy will be on display at the Stuller site at JCK with technical experts available to answer questions and provide further information.
