The “River of Heaven” necklace”

The Cultus Artem «River of Heaven» necklace combines 26 salt and pepper diamonds separated by Tahitian pearls.

The Couture Design Atelier hides many hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. And for this edition of «Piece of the Week,» «salt and pepper» diamonds were discovered in the «River of Heaven» necklace by Cultus Artem.

This unique piece tells the story of these distinctive diamonds through 26 diamond pendants totaling over 39 carats.

«Unusual diamonds have always fascinated me.» stated Holly Tupper, founder and designer of Cultus Artem.

«What particularly fascinates me about «salt and pepper» diamonds is that they look like a tiny history lesson.

There's a fascinating origin that gives every natural diamond its own unique story, Tupper explained. From the time it takes for a natural diamond to form, to the volcanic eruption that brings them to the surface. But also the uniqueness of each stone's carbon inclusions.

With less traditional diamonds being in vogue, from fancy shapes to Desert Diamonds, the brand emphasizes how the imperfection of «salt and pepper» diamonds only adds to their beauty.

Of the 26 diamonds, some are more iridescent, while others are quite dark. Various cuts were used to highlight each one in its own way. Such as marquise, portrait, carre, step cut, old mine cut, and rose cut.

«I wanted every stone to be completely different, but to have a harmony between them,» Tupper stated.

Each diamond is set in 18k yellow gold and separated by Tahitian pearls. In addition, white pavé diamonds totaling 3 carats accent the pendant's bail and clasp.

Tupper said she chose a graduated pearl necklace with an iridescent sheen to create a combination between pearls and diamonds, which she is proud to present for the first time during her first year at Couture.

The necklace's design and its name, "River of Heaven," were inspired by the folk love story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, who are separated by the heavens but reunited once a year, Tupper said.

In history, magpies all over the world learn of the misery of lovers and fly towards the heavens. They gather to form a celestial bridge which is the Milky Way.

The Galaxy is depicted in her design as diamonds in salt-and-pepper shades. Falling like a waterfall amongst silver Tahitian pearls.

The River of Heaven necklace was first presented at Couture as part of the «Through Paradox» collection.

The necklace (price available upon request) is available on Cultus Artem's website, should it not have already caught a buyer's eye at the exhibition.
