Earlier this week, the world of country music lost an irreplaceable legendary figure. Singer-songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80, following a brief battle with cancer.
Parton, who self-identified as a « rhinestone girl», was known all over the world for her sparkly clothes. As well as her high heels and gravity-defying wigs.
Undoubtedly, she possessed high-quality jewelry that held personal significance for her. But her public image left little room, nor much need, for high-end jewelry.
It also seems that natural diamonds and colored gemstones were not big enough for Parton.
In a 2021 interview with W magazine, the editor describes Parton and her creative director, Steve Summers, as being interested in a Chopard jewelry tray that included a «very large» amethyst.
«I can't wear a jewel that small,» Parton said. «Do you have anything larger?»
Although Parton was not a collector of high-end jewelry—on the level, say, of Elizabeth Taylor—she was, however, known for her love of butterflies.
She embraced the beautiful insect as a symbol in her music and business ventures. As she explains to W in the same interview, she felt an affinity with butterflies, because they are colorful and gentle, just like her.
So, for this week's «Piece of the Week,» we have chosen a butterfly piece of jewelry. Which we think would be grand and beautiful enough for Parton.
Buddha Mama's 20-karat yellow gold butterfly necklace. It features diamonds surrounding a butterfly with wings in military green enamel. They are decorated with flower motifs adorned with diamonds.
The butterfly has a body of 12.94-carat green tourmaline with a 20-karat yellow gold fringe. It is also decorated with round- and marquise-cut diamonds. Furthermore, it hangs from a beaded gold chain, adorned with round diamonds.
