The London-based jewellery house has entered into a partnership with Game of Thrones. It created a range of high jewellery that draws design details from the dramatic settings, costumes, characters and otherworldly landscape of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Each creation was inspired by the orphaned and warrior-turned-warrior Daenerys Targaryen's passion for her dragons. As well as her relentless pursuit of the Iron Throne and the use of her jewels to reflect her power.
Fabergé is unveiling the collection in a series of chapters over the next two years. It started with the Dragon chapter, which it unveiled on 24 November in Dubai.
There are five designs, each limited to 10 pieces, in black, white and red - the colours of the Targaryen house. The pieces are made from 18-carat white gold. Some are rhodium-plated for a black edge, and set with rubies. The red rubies, from the Gemfields Montepuez mine in Mozambique, represent Daenerys' fiery spirit.
Patterns include flames, dragon tails, skeletons and spikes. Just what a warrior princess wears when defending her kingdom.
The Flame Egg pendant is shaped like an egg. It represents the last flickering flames of life, and is decorated with white diamonds. It is inspired by dragon skeletons, including a chain designed with an arrowhead tip, like a dragon's tail. Both the tail and the egg can be detached. The matching Dragon Tail earrings mimic the articulated chain of the necklace.
An earcuff is connected to a choker with a chain. The white gold spikes with diamonds on the earcuff represent the wings of a dragon. A Mozambique Gemfields pear-cut ruby looks like it is coming out of the dragon's mouth, representing the return of dragons. It still symbolizes Daenerys' ability to transform and harness her power. Another earcuff displays a row of diamonds and rubies that metaphorically burst into flames. Suggesting that the dragons have returned and are full of life.
There is also a bracelet and ring, which can be worn in different ways and symbolize the complete revival of dragons. A dragon is wrapped around the finger and then set on fire. Precious stones represent fire, exploding into a statement bracelet. Gemfields rubies decorate it, pink and yellow sapphires and brown and white diamonds. The ring and bracelet, connected by a chain. However, they can be detached from each other and worn individually.
The Fabergé x Game of Thrones collection was developed in collaboration with Michele Clapton. Emmy and BAFTA award-winning costume designer for Game of Thrones. As well as Liisa Tallgren, head of design at Fabergé and with Fabergé's creative director Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell. The next three chapters of the collection will be revealed during 2023.
The collection was inspired by Daenerys' strength and vulnerability and her relationship with her dragons.
To try to express this complex woman and her journey from orphan exile to conquering monarch. As well as her ongoing quest for the Iron Throne, Michele Clapton said in a press release.
This is not Fabergé's first collaboration with Game of Thrones. Last April she hatched a one-of-a-kind personalized art object, the Fabergé x Game of Thrones Egg, to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the first episode of the series. It was sold to a private collector for $2.2 million.
Η Fabergé was founded in 1842 by Peter Carl Fabergé, who created 50 imperial Easter eggs for the Russian Romanov family between 1885 and 1916. The company was officially relaunched in 2009 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gemfields Ltd, a leading supplier of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones.
