“Garden of Green” at the American Museum of Natural History.

Visitors to the American Museum of Natural History now have until March to see Van Cleef & Arpels' celebration of green jewelry.

The American Museum of Natural History has announced that its special exhibit celebrating green jewelry has been extended.

It was originally scheduled to close this month. But exhibition “Garden of Green: Exquisite Jewelry from the Collection of Van Cleef & Arpels” can now be viewed until Sunday, March 17.

Necklace made of emeralds and diamonds. One of the 44 pieces on display at the “Garden of Green”. The suite was commissioned by Prince Karim Aga Khan IV for his wife in 1971. It features yellow gold, diamonds and 477.58 carats of emeralds from Colombia. The hinged necklace can be transformed into a pair of matching bracelets and a pendant.

The exhibition is located in the Allison and Roberto Mignone Gem and Mineral Halls. It includes 44 pieces of green gemstone jewelry from Van Cleef & Arpels' collections over the past 100 years.

Of these, 32 are being exhibited for the first time in the United States.

The Garden of Green exhibition presents jewellery with a variety of green coloured gemstones. It also includes peridot, malachite, emeralds and jade.

The Van Cleef & Arpels “Cydonia” set with emeralds, inspired by the quince tree, Cydonia oblonga. It is decorated with butterflies set with rare pink diamonds. Even the necklace and earrings feature 951 emeralds.

The maison is excited and honored to have the opportunity to be associated with the American Museum of Natural History. The exhibition is further complemented by a variety of green minerals, sculptures and jewelry on display in the gemstone rooms.

Notable pieces include the 632-carat Patricia emerald and a jade jade incense caminet from China. Another beryl behemoth from the Bumpus quarry in Maine and a piece from Morocco with an aquamarine pendant circa 1750.
