A new sustainability initiative for the jewellery industry.

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, and quality assurance company Intertek Italia SpA present the first sustainability training and certification programme for the jewellery industry.

The online project is supported by the International Council for Sustainable Business. The Council has been established by CIBJO's educational arm, the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation (WJCEF).

The programme is a series of courses by sustainability experts. These will be delivered through a dedicated e-training platform developed by Intertek. Students must accumulate a certain number of training hours for certification. The certification will be issued by Intertek.

According to CIBJO, the initiative will be launched in VICENZAORO. It will provide industry professionals with the knowledge and practical tools to help them implement sustainability and corporate social responsibility practices.

These include auditing techniques, information on laws and regulations. Such as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, US and European legislation on conflict minerals.

Also the OECD guidelines on due diligence, the WDC guarantee system. Also the Code of Conduct of the Responsible Jewellery Council and the CIBJO Blue Book on Responsible Sourcing Practices, among others.
