Iconic Jewels: Her Sense of Style.

Sotheby's presents an extensive private collection of designer jewellery from across the twentieth century

It represents a woman's passion for both the iconic and the avant-garde. The collection is distinguished by unique pieces, many of which have been featured in museum exhibitions and scholarly literature. This special one-owner-only online auction, «Iconic Jewels: Her Sense of Style,» will be open from May 2. Bidding closes on May 16, featuring over 200 jewels sold online.

The most important pieces of the collection will be part of the «Magnificent Jewels» live sale on May 14. During the Sotheby's Luxury Sales in Geneva, in which 46 pieces will go under the hammer.

This spectacular selection is a tribute to twentieth-century jewellery design. But also an encyclopaedic presentation of the most iconic pieces and the trends that have been most influential. They are highlighted through creations from the most famous jewellery houses. Such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Boucheron, Chaumet, David Webb, Mauboussin, Marina B, Sterlé and Mellerio dits Meller.

René Boivin has a special place in the context of «Iconic Jewels: Her Sense of Style». One of the most imaginative jewellery houses in the world.

Renowned for his intricately crafted yet vibrantly colourful jewellery, Boivin's style appealed to the private collector. But over time, this specialist acquired perhaps the most extensive selection of French jewelry house works in the world. Nearly thirty pieces will be offered as part of the exhibition «Iconic Jewels. It is the largest collection of Boivin jewelry ever to be auctioned.

One of the most defining characteristics of «Iconic Jewels: Her Sense of Style» is its sheer eclecticism. It is thus unified with the unmistakable sophisticated eye of the private collector and wisely balances the most iconic jewelry collection. With a confidence in actively seeking out the most unusual, often eccentric, sometimes unique or specially crafted pieces.

Also, most jewelry collectors focus on certain periods, brands or styles. But this particular collector sought to acquire the most remarkable examples of jewelry from all the major decades and design trends of the twentieth century: the Art Nouveau, Belle Epoque, Art Deco and Modernism.

The passion and sense of style of the collector shines through the diversity of the collection with its many bold and colourful pieces. But also his preference for intricate craftsmanship from the world's finest jewellery houses.
