IGI certifies the largest laboratory diamond.

The International Gemological Institute (IGI) analysed and graded a 35.00 carat lab-grown diamond, the largest to date.

The production was done by Maitri Lab Grown Diamonds (Maitri). The new record holder was crafted in an emerald cut with dimensions of 23.37 x 15.24 x 9.06 mm. The Type IIa rough crystal from which it was formed was grown by the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) process. Maitri will exhibit the gemstone at JCK Las Vegas, June 2-5, in booth #8123.

Maitri commented: “We are thrilled to present this remarkable 35 carat lab-grown diamond. An achievement which follows extensive research and development efforts, reflecting our commitment to excellence. The certification of this benchmark by IGI reinforces its authenticity and genuineness. It also reinforces our leadership position in the industry and highlights the enormous potential of lab-grown diamonds.”.

Lab-grown diamonds have reinvigorated the jewellery industry, offering consumers an authentic, affordable alternative to mined diamonds. So according to statistician Edahn Golan, sales of individual lab-grown diamonds held a share of 13.7% in 2020. Since then, their share has almost tripled, to 33.8% in 2022.

“IGI is proud to certify new benchmarks such as this exceptional lab-grown diamond from Maitri,” said Avi Levy, president of IGI North America. “The increasing sophistication and quality of the achievements we are seeing from leading producers is remarkable.

These achievements also underline how vital it is to monitor, classify and disclose. It is therefore in the interests of continued confidence and growth in our industry.”.

IGI will provide on-site diamond sorting and grading services at JCK Las Vegas, booth #8055. Attendees are invited to join IGI for two JCK Talks sessions, “Lab Grown Diamond 101 (and beyond)” on Thursday, June 1 from 5:00-5:45 p.m. in Room 101, Expo Level I, and “Lab Grown Diamond Updates” on Saturday, June 3 from 10:00-10:45 a.m., Expo Level II Showcase Stage.

JCK attendees can also attend the IGI happy hour at 4:00 p.m. daily, at the design lounge booth #12037, to learn about the latest developments in the diamond, jewellery and gemstone industry.
