The natural diamond weighed 1.04 carats and was light brown in color, GIA reported in the winter edition of Gems & Gemology. The stone was partially polished. With a rough texture retained on the edge of the handle and the front of the bat. The manufacturer intentionally kept some rough parts to authenticate the natural origin of the diamond, GIA explained.
Using spectroscopy, GIA confirmed that the diamond was a natural stone, type IIa, with no color treatment. It also identified a transverse ”tatami” strain within the diamond.
The diamond is signed and named after cricketer Virat Kohli. (Gemological Institute of America)
The stone was a gift to celebrate the 15th anniversary in the sport of cricketer Virat Kohli. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in history, notes GIA. His name and signature is inscribed on the diamond. According to Indian news sources, the donor is Utpal Mistry. A leading Indian diamond expert and businessman from Gujarat.
