The «Python Gold» bracelet.

The bracelet evokes vintage jewellery and snake symbolism as a playful piece where the head of a python becomes a functional bracelet buckle.

We have seen snake jewelry popping up everywhere lately. Partly due to the fact that 2025 is the year of the wooden snake in the Chinese lunar calendar.

However, snakes were a staple in jewellery from ancient Egypt. With the motif still in vogue and not likely to change anytime soon.

In fact, designers continue to work with the motif and symbolism of snakes. They are thus creating playful pieces such as Yvonne Léon's «Python Gold» bracelet.

The bracelet turns a belt into a snake with a buckle that acts as the head of the snake. Black diamonds are used as the python's eyes and red enamel for its tongue. Even grey diamonds as details on the belt loops and the outline of the buckle. Finally 9 carat yellow gold in a scale design as the body of the piece.

Léon sought the symbolism of snakes for this piece. As she said, the reptile has always been a powerful symbol for her. It has always represented transformation, protection and timeless elegance.

«By combining it with a belt buckle, I wanted to play with the idea of strength and structure. Creating a piece that is fun to fasten,» he said.

Vintage jewellery and the symbolism of snakes found in ancient cultures inspired Léon to create the bracelet.

“I wanted to redefine the snake into a modern, usable sculpture. The texture of the scale, the curves of the python and the gold all came naturally. As if the piece had to exist,” added Léon.

While the Python Gold bracelet was launched last year, a necklace version of the piece debuted at Couture earlier this month.

It is part of the «Safari» collection, which includes leopards, zebras, lions, elephants, turtles and koalas.
