When it comes to bridal collections, diamonds don't have to be the main focus.
In fact, it is particularly popular to include coloured gemstones in multi-stone rings. That's what National Jeweler reported in its forecast of 2025 engagement ring trends. Bliss Lau's latest «Love of a Kind» collection does just that.
Lau, the founder and designer of her eponymous brand, filled her bridal collection with colourful engagement rings. She used unique sapphires from her private collection that she has amassed over more than a decade.
Currently the collection consists of nine pieces, with more styles to come. But her «Bright» ring is our piece of the week.
It features a 1.63-carat purple sapphire with pink highlights from Madagascar. Lau sourced it from one of her favorite gem carvers, Larry Woods.
The pear-shaped sapphire is accented with two diamonds. A 0.35 carat old mine diamond and a pavé diamond. While all are set in 14 carat yellow gold Single Mine Origin 14 carat gold from the Sabodala-Massawa mine in Senegal.
The Bright ring is a ring with three stones. But instead of the traditional arrangement seen in engagement rings - large stone in the center, with small stones of the same size on each side - the sapphire is set off-center, with the sequential diamonds spaced off to one side.
The design of the piece is inspired by the phases of the moon. As well as the way it reflects the ever-changing rhythms of life.
«The phases of the moon always remind me that change is constant. As well as that beauty exists in every stage,» Lau said. “To me, gemstones represent a moment in time, a grounding force. The ring itself is a physical reminder of clarity, intention and also transformation.
“I believe that jewelry can be more than just adorning us - it can help us connect with who we are becoming and carefully guide us towards it. The Bright ring is designed to bring this idea to life.”.
If the ring is worn with the stones descending to the right, it channels the energy of the waxing moon. This symbolizes abundance, passion and growth.
However, if worn with the stone descending to the left, it honours the waning moon, representing a time for reflection, liberation and renewal.
This is the way Lau would wear the ring when she feels more introverted, she said.
«It's a way to listen, learn and slow down, which seems particularly calming in the midst of a busy life.».
The Bright ring costs $7,260.
It debuted on May 9 along with the other tracks from the Love of a Kind collection and is available on the Bliss Lau website.
Earlier this year, Lau unveiled a fashion jewellery collection titled «As We Are».
