The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York has announced that an exhibition of high jewellery will open on 11 April. Astronomy-inspired jewelry from Van Cleef & Arpels.

Double-Galaxies

«Cosmic Splendor: Jewelry from the Collections of Van Cleef & Arpels». It will include nearly 70 celestial, mythological and also astrological pieces from the brand.

The exhibition is designed to celebrate the wonders and mysteries of the universe.

People are fascinated by the night sky and moved by the grandeur of space. So they have been creating fascinating works of art for a millennium, AMNH said.

The jewellery, watches and precious objects on display in the upcoming «Cosmic Splendor» exhibition include necklaces depicting rockets in flight. There are even gemstone pendants inspired by distant nebulae and watches with mechanisms that track the passage of planetary bodies.

Moon-Pendant

The pieces on display are from the ancestral collection of Van Cleef & Arpels. Also from individuals who lent their contemporary jewelry for the occasion.

Spiral Clip

The museum will house «Cosmic Splendor» in the Melissa and Keith Meister Gallery. In a space for temporary exhibitions in the newly renovated Allison and Roberto Mignone Gem and Mineral Galleries, which opened in February 2021.

Diane Watch

In 2023, a collaboration between the museum and the jewellery store entitled «Garden of Green: exquisite jewellery from the Van Cleef & Arpels collection» also took place in this space.

Most recently, the gallery exhibited «Ice Cold: An Exhibition of Hip-Hop Jewelry».
