Amanda Gizzi spotted gemstones in these 5 shades in the AGTA Gem Fair and in Centurion, also.
Strolling the aisles of the Centurion and AGTA GemFair Tucson trade shows was a colorful treat.
Coloured gemstones, as a whole, are a huge trend. So it's clear that 2023 and 2024 will be bright and bold.
The Tuscan reports in particular tend to be excellent indicators of which gems will shape the coming years. Sometimes there are clear dominant ones, while other color palettes or stones are unexpected surprises.
This year, there were five colours - magenta, purple, orange, teal and emerald - that stood out. For some of these colors, there are multiple gems that can meet consumer demand and capture their color curiosities.
See them all below.
Magenta.
Gemstones in magenta are obviously a trend. As “Viva Magenta” has been named Pantone's 2023 colour of the year.
Bold pink gemstones are a natural match for the colour of the year, with the pink tourmaline matching Pantone's Viva Magenta colour almost perfectly.
Purple.
Purple is one of the palettes that might surprise you at first glance. Especially with amethyst suddenly making an appearance side by side with other, finer quality gemstones.
However, the passion for purple was not limited to amethyst. Purple spinel and tanzanite also stood out in the exhibitions.
Petrol.
Gemstones in the teal spectrum are the third palette in the trends this year.
The pale turquoise of Paraíba tourmaline, the deep saturated turquoise of London Blue topaz and the bright turquoise sapphires are all within the spectrum leading to desirability.
Orange.
Orange brings some warmth to an otherwise cold trend forecast.
Orange sapphire, Mexican fire opal and garnet speckled sapphire warmed the desert at both trade shows. While orange is not for everyone, it is striking and will draw attention.
Emerald.
Last, but not least, is emerald.
Emerald, tsavorite and rich green tourmaline retain strong popularity and appeal. Sometimes the classics can be the top trends.
