The watches that stood out on the Oscars red carpet.

From Leonardo DiCaprio to Robert Downey Jr., high end watchmaking choices added another luxury detail to the biggest night in cinema.

Oscar night is the biggest celebration of cinema. At the same time, the Dolby Theatre's red carpet also serves each year as an informal runway of high watchmaking. Since 2017, Rolex has been an official sponsor and partner of the Oscars, reinforcing its long-standing relationship with cinema.

The iconic Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona Cosmograph was on display in the Rolex hospitality area. Released in 1963, in 18-carat yellow gold with a green dial. A colour combination that was directly linked to the aesthetics of the space. @ rolex.com

The Swiss watchmaker works closely with the Academy and is responsible for the design of the relaxation area (Green Room) behind the ceremony stage each year. A space where nominees and award winners spend a few minutes before or after their appearance on stage.

Before the ceremony even began, a clock had already attracted attention. The evening's host Conan O'Brien appeared in the photos and videos released before the Oscars, wearing the Rolex Land-Dweller. He also chose to wear the same model on stage on the big night.

Leonardo DiCaprio

The star of the movie “One Battle After Another” and Rolex ambassador, chose the 1908 Platinum. The distinctive dial in an ice blue hue and also engraved with a guilloché pattern, reminiscent of small grains of rice. It gives the watch a particularly elegant character that perfectly matched his Dior suit. On the plus side: the gold bee pin on the lapel, by Boucheron, as a subtle reference to Bee:wild. A repopulation campaign launched by the environmental protection foundation Re:wild, of which DiCaprio is a founding member.

Michael B. Jordan

The actor was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor for his double role in the film Sinners. He appeared in a vintage Piaget gold watch with a rectangular case and diamond-set dial. The special piece matched perfectly with his severe black ensemble. Proving that vintage watches can add character to even the most seemingly minimalist look. Like the film's director, Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan both wore Louis Vuitton suits.

Pedro Pascal

Pedro Pascal took to the stage with Sigourney Weaver to present the award for best set design. Showcasing his Chanel ensemble, he chose the Chanel Boy-Friend watch in Beige Gold. The model, introduced by the house in 2015, stands out for its rectangular case, inspired by the Art Deco aesthetic. Beige Gold is the signature beige gold shade used by Chanel in its watches and jewellery.

Hudson Williams

One of the most unexpected performances of the night came from the star of the much talked about series Heated Rivalry. He wore Bulgari's Serpenti Tubogas watch, and also complemented his Balenciaga suit. The Serpenti is considered an iconic watch of the house but is rarely favoured by men on the red carpet. Which made the choice highly debatable.

Ryan Coogler

The director of the film Sinners chose the Tank à Guichets by Cartier. With a jumping hour mechanism, where the time appears in a window and also changes instantaneously, instead of moving with hands. The model was recently reissued as a revival of Cartier's historic design. Another interesting detail: the guitar and the treble clef braided into his hair. A reference to the Sinners' blues roots.

Kieran Culkin

Last year's winner of the Best Actor award, he appeared in a Zegna tuxedo and a Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph watch in a 42 mm King Gold case. King Gold is Hublot's proprietary alloy, with a warmer shade than classic rose gold, while the Classic Fusion range stands out for its simpler, more elegant design.

Robert Downey Jr.

The «Iron Man» of the Marvel Cinematic Universe opted for a monochromatic look, pairing Valentino's green custom-made suit with a green dial Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Complete Calendar watch. The ensemble was further complemented by Tiffany & Co. jewellery, creating one of the most complete and colour-consistent looks of the evening.
