Pink pearls are gaining new fans.

Pink pearls are gaining new fans and online searches have increased thanks to movies like Barbie and Margot Robbie wearing these warm shades on the pink carpet.

Margot Robbie wore a choker with three rows of pearls to the UK premiere of Barbie. Since then, pearls have been in the spotlight. Especially those with pink hues, which seems to be the “it” color of the season.

Robbie gave the pink carpet something special with her Assael pearl necklace. So I wondered what makes the pink pearl stand out for jewelers who choose this color for their pieces. Three jewelry designers came up to talk about why pearls are always in style. Why pink pearls are particularly attractive right now and they see the pearl trend in the coming months and years to come.

Some jewellers call the pearl the most colourful gem in the world, because it comes in a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes.

While white is the most common colour, pink and purple pearls with their distinctive pastel colours are mainly available in freshwater varieties. Akoya pearls may also appear to have a pink hue that resembles a subtle pink tint.

Necklace Matara Sweet Candy

Matara brought subtle shades of pink to the Sweet Candy necklace, which gives a Margot Robbie Barbie vibe to any outfit.

Founder Jin Jungsura says pink is always an attractive color for consumers. As it is associated with femininity, youthfulness and romance. In addition, pink evokes feelings of warmth, comfort and happiness. Which may be why we collectively choose this colour in today's stressful world.

“Pink pearls, like any other coloured pearl, have a unique and charming appeal for consumers. Natural pink pearls are quite rare. Also their distinct hue sets them apart from traditional white pearls,” says Jungsura. “The pink colour adds a touch of elegance, making them highly sought after by those looking for something different and eye-catching.”.

Jungsura says Matara uses pink pearls in her jewelry because the color has meaning in many cultures. But doing so allows the wearer to choose the mood and meaning behind what they choose to wear.

“One of the must-have pieces from Matara has to be our pink ombre pearl necklace. It's a breathtaking piece of jewellery that effortlessly combines elegance and style,” says Jungsura. “Each pearl is meticulously selected. It ranges in shades from pale pink to magenta. They have been carefully joined together to create a mesmerizing gradient effect.”.

Cultured pink pearls like these 8mm pearl earrings from The Pearl Source. They add a warm hue to any skin tone.

Creative director Carla Jonas says The Pearl Source's cultured pink pearls come from freshwater environments. Specifically from freshwater pearl shells.

“They can bear fruit many times over. That means they come in a unique range of shapes. And from pale pink to lavender pink, silver pink, true pink and rose pink,” says Jonas. “For both our brand and our customers, pink pearls convey femininity and grace.”.

Robbie's pink carpet style and the adoption of pink from the Barbie movie certainly increased the appeal of pink pearls, Jonas says. She calls pearls a true classic element that can also look modern or whimsical. Depending on the jeweler and how they are now paired with chains.

“This increased visibility has played a key role in reviving the popularity of pink pearls. Especially among younger demographics, leading to a noticeable 20% increase in pink pearl surveys,” says Jonas.

“However, the most significant rise in popularity of pink pearls is consistently seen just before Valentine's Day. A trend that has remained.”.

Gisel B Angie hoops

Pink pearls in a soft range of shades are what make Angie hoop earrings a must-have for any jewellery collection, says Gisel B founder Clémence Masson.

Founder Clémence Masson says her French jewellery brand works mainly with cultured pearls, making them elegant and on-trend. Pearls in general are timeless, Masson says. But her own company puts a twist on tradition with the way she styles pearls of all colors, especially pink.

“With the Barbie movie, pink pearls are the focus,” Masson says. “It's our little connection to the Barbie girl. The pink cultured pearls are sublime. They have a natural glow that makes them special. And they go very well with gold. Pink gives a little fantasy. All of our jewelry designs can be available with pink pearls.”.

Masson says she sees more and more people, especially men, seeking out cultured pearls. They want to create distinctive looks with jewelry that makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd.

“It's a great material to work with. Every pearl is different because it's natural,” Masson says. “So every piece of jewelry is unique. In our workshop, we choose our pearls with great care. We have jewelry with white and pink pearls, but also midnight blue, which is very elegant for a man.”.
