A typical example: Hernsdorf's celestial-inspired sphere is 2.2 cm in diameter, making it the largest such style she has created to date. But the size is only half the size. The 22-carat yellow gold and diamond pendant, which comes with a handmade 24-inch gold chain, contains a secret: a glittering pile of natural diamonds with facets totaling between 0.5 and 0.75 carats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abWho doesn't like loose diamonds?\u00bb says Hernsdorf. \u201cThe interesting thing is that customers don't see bulk diamonds. We see them and take them for granted. But when people see them, they go crazy.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2 mm loose diamonds in the pendant with the ball total between 0.5 and 0.75 ct. t.w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hernsdorf created its first pendant with the globe about five years ago. She later had the idea to add diamonds to the piece - although they are almost certain to fall off at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThat's the point,\u00bb she says. \u201cThere's a psychological tension in having this thing that you could lose at any time. The idea is that you can't grab it too hard - it's like a little life lesson.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diamonds scattered around the sphere total 0.27 ct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hernsdorf's customers love the design, which, in this case, features a simple ruby combined with scattered diamonds paired together to evoke the planet Mars. The top and bottom poles of the pendant are adorned with cabochon rubies. But it's the pile of diamonds contained within that proves most captivating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
