A huge success, the auction raised an impressive $30 million, the highest estimate since the pre-sale. It sold an impressive 90% of lots. The star of the show, a rare and important Van Cleef & Arpels diamond \u201ctie\u201d necklace from 1929. It was a true masterpiece, a testament to unparalleled craftsmanship. The Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, a masterpiece of Art Deco design, fetched a remarkable $3.6 million after a lively six-minute bidding war involving seven bidders. The strong auction results were driven by the charm of the individual pieces. But also by Sotheby's strategic decision to reduce buyer's commission rates on a standard 20%. The lowest of any international auction house. The move has boosted bidding enthusiasm, as evidenced by the record number of bidders and the influx of new registrants. Almost a third of whom were first-time participants at Sotheby's.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation was global, with bidders from 30 countries in North America, Europe and Asia. Including significant participation from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore and Taiwan. Further proof that eye-catching designs are stirring up the auction block includes a stunning bracelet with coloured stones and Egyptian-inspired diamonds. The bracelet exceeded expectations, selling for $1,044,000, well above its high estimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This piece and others in the auction highlighted a broader trend in the appreciation of historic and culturally inspired designs featuring rare natural gemstones.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The large and rare natural diamonds that could never be forgotten, of course, stood out. Including an incredible, unmounted 53.04 carat D-colored, pear-colored Type IIa pear-shaped diamond with no internal imperfections. It sold for $3.48 million. In addition, a magnificent 21.54 carat, 21.54 carat, D-color, VVS2 clarity, oval-shaped diamond ring, signed by Graff, fetched $1,440,000. These sales reflect the high standards of today's collectors. But also their willingness to invest significantly in unique and rare natural diamonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
