Now, this is some serious bibbidi-bobbidi-bling. Crystal manufacturer Swarovski participated in Disney's \u201c100 Years of Wonder\u201d program (an annual celebration of the animation company's storytelling legacy). So it made a replica of the special solid crystal shoe it built for the 2015 live-action film Cinderella, which starred Lily James and Richard Madden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house joins 100 other creators, brands and artists who have been invited to contribute commemorative artwork. Also items or experiences to support the children's charity, Make-A-Wish.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am honoured to be part of this global celebration of creativity and emerging talent.\u201d This is what Giovanna Engelbert, global creative director of Swarovski, said about the collaboration. \u201cWhat inspired me to recreate Cinderella's iconic crystal slipper... is the name of the charity and the idea of the wish. And of course, the slipper is the most famous shoe in the world. Because it's transformative and full of magic. So it was the perfect way to unite the world of Swarovski with the world of Disney.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was made by Swarovski's in-house craftsmen at the headquarters in the Austrian Alps. The pendant is made of solid Aurora Borealis crystal, which produces a holographic glow, and has 221 facets. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It took a team of eight technicians 150 hours to make the shoe. Later this year, it will be auctioned off alongside other contributions from creators such as Beyonc\u00e9, Tommy Hilfiger and Christian Louboutin. While proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to support critically ill children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the 2015 live-action film Cinderella, three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell envisioned a Swarovski crystal shoe. It's hand-cut, 3-sectioned, in the pattern of an 1890s shoe borrowed from a museum in Northampton. \u201cI looked at lots of different possibilities of how to make a glass shoe. So I realised that the most important thing was that it had to shine. Which meant it had to be made of crystal, because glass won't shine.\u201d That's what Powell told reporters at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several versions of the shoe were made for the film and are now in the Walt Disney archives for historical preservation. During production, Lily James wore more comfortable (and much less dangerous) leather versions of the shoes. They were dotted with CGI markers so that the visual effects team could introduce the infamous glassy glow. But also the magical glow of the shoes after the filming was over - no fairy godmother was needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
