“Malaika” Egg by Fabergé x Gemfields.

Fabergé is working with Gemfields on the new $1.2 million egg. The new one-of-a-kind Fabergé x Gemfields “Malaika” egg highlights rare and precious rubies, combined with diamonds, sapphires, amethysts and pearls.

Heritage jeweller Fabergé has unveiled its latest one-of-a-kind egg in partnership with Gemfields. The world's leading responsible miner of coloured gemstones.

The precious object is called Malaika which means “angel” in Swahili, a language spoken in Mozambique.

It highlights the precious rubies (the birthstone for the month of July) that are responsibly mined at the Montepuez ruby mine in Mozambique. The mine is majority owned by Gemfields.

The $100,000 from this month's sales will be donated to the Gemfields Foundation. A foundation to support community projects that alleviate poverty in Mozambique.

In total, the Malaika egg is encrusted with 308 rubies, which have been meticulously accented with other rare gemstones. Included are 4,312 white brilliant-cut round-cut diamonds and 252 brown brilliant-cut round-cut diamonds.

These stones are further complemented by 421 round pink sapphires and 61 amethysts set in rose gold. As well as guilloché enamel, which resembles the feathers on an angel's wings.

In true Fabergé style, a surprise treasure is hidden inside the egg. As the pearl ring at the base rotates counterclockwise, the egg's wings slowly unfold, resembling the wings of an angel. These five “wings” gracefully open in harmony to reveal a hidden gemstone.. A five-carat ruby, approved Gemfields mining from Mozambique. The ruby is encased in a rose gold sphere that resembles a filigree.

The golden ball can be opened and removed from the egg. While the ruby is placed inside the object, it can be removed and placed in a special jewelry set designed specifically for the owner.

“Colour is in Fabergé's DNA and has always played a key role in our creations. So often referred to as “the jewellery artist”, we like to “paint” our creations with the finest coloured gemstones. The Fabergé x Gemfields Malaika Egg is a testament to this creative flame.” As Antony Lindsay, CEO of Fabergé, commented.

“At Fabergé, we still believe that every gemstone should bring benefits to its place of origin, which is why we are a proud member of the Gemfields group.

We are delighted to unveil this collaborative one-of-a-kind egg objet, which is a true celebration of Gemfields' responsibly mined rubies from Mozambique.

It is with great pride that I can confirm that Fabergé will donate $100,000 from the sale of the Fabergé x Gemfields Malaika Egg to the Gemfields Foundation to fund projects aimed at alleviating poverty in the areas surrounding the Montepuez mine in Mozambique.”.
