The Cultural and Beautification Association of Stemnitsiotes ”The Ypsountas” announced that it is organizing a two-day event on the theme of 50 years of operation and contribution of the well-known Silversmithing School in Stemnitsa, Arcadia. The event will take place on the weekend of August 8 and 9, 2026, at the Cultural Center of Stemnitsa.

The event will honor half a century of the historic School's uninterrupted educational presence and contribution. This is an institution that keeps intangible cultural heritage alive by connecting traditional metalwork with contemporary creation. On the sidelines of the two-day conference, Nikos Kaltziotis, an Arcadian, former New Democracy MP for Arcadia, and former Deputy Minister of Education (1980–1981), will be honored. He was the person who contributed to the integration of the Stemnitsa School into the Ministry of Education. Additionally, a tribute will be paid to its inspirer and teacher, Labis Katsoulis.

Where do the wavy rings come from?;

Many designers have expanded on existing styles in their collections to create these modern forms. The «ZAHA Secret» ring from Zahn‑Z is a continuation of designer Hiba Hysani’s elegant pieces. It is influenced by the work of Zaha Hadid, specifically the Heydar Aliyev Center in Azerbaijan. Baylee Zwart of Azlee wanted to expand on her «Dew Drop» earrings from the Seduction of the Senses collection into a ring version. Designer Reema Chopra of Khepri uses vibrantly colored diamonds in her sought-after collections. Her own interpretation of the traditional «Vanki» ring—a symbol of the Indian goddess Lakshmi—offers a modern take on Lakshmi's crown. Breitling has long been the official watch partner of Aston Martin. It has unveiled a limited edition collaboration. It includes three watches and honors the luxury car manufacturer's most iconic vehicle – the DB5.

A synonym for James Bond thanks to its appearances in the films «Goldfinger,» «Thunderball,» and «Skyfall,» the DB5 is arguably the most recognizable car in the world. In fact, Sean Connery actually wore a Breitling while driving the DB5 in the film «Thunderball.».

Now, with this special release, Breitling honors this great achievement of British manufacturing. Combining it with Swiss watchmaking magic, through the Top Time Chronograph B01 Tribute To Aston Martin DB5.

Although all three watches have a significant size of 41 mm, their construction differs. The first model of the mini-collection features a silver stainless steel dial. With a wooden bezel and a luxurious leather strap, clearly inspired by the interior of the DB5. This version is the closest to the original Top Time. And it looks like the watch Connery wore in the movie «Thunderball.» Only 1,022 pieces will be produced, and their retail price will be £8,650.

Due to the more luxurious materials, this version costs 35,100 pounds, and all three versions are available now.

In honor of Penelope, Roseate created the «Strength» collection. It includes a heart-shaped pendant (below) to show how love endures separation and the passage of time. It appears to be formed from two Roseate «WaterDrops.».

The dagger-shaped pendant from the Odyssey collection was designed to inspire people to think about the character of a true leader, characterized by precision, patience, and decisiveness, says Cloud.

Also use the moon motif in the jewelry, as moons appear throughout the «Odyssey.» The moon marks the passage of time and lights Odysseus's way. Roseate combined pearls with celestial figures to highlight the connection between sea and sky. Cloud chose Tahitian pearls, as well as white and blue Akoya pearls, to evoke the water that is both a challenge and a guide for Odysseus, she says.

«The Odyssey is full of symbols of courage, perseverance, and homecoming, which naturally align with our design philosophy,» says Cloud.

Cloud states that Roseate highlights pearls for a new generation. She also uses her New York-based jewelry brand to support environmental organizations, partnering with the Billion Oyster Project, Water.org, and Conservation International on ocean-themed projects, which raise money for these organizations' efforts.

Zendaya has caused a small stir with the 3,000-year-old earrings she wore. She appeared with them at a premiere of her tour for Nolan's Odyssey, where she plays the goddess Athena.

Up until now, Zendaya had managed to monopolize the spotlight at premieres around the world for "Dune." Due to her extremely impressive appearances, she was compared to the modern goddess Athena. They said her style was the modern ancient Greek style and praised her. However, a pair of earrings she wore has caused a mini-uproar.

These are two 18-karat gold discs found in Iran in 1940. They are attributed to the Ziwiye treasure and date back to the first millennium BC, according to CNN.

These gold discs had undergone some processing to be turned into earrings. This was undertaken and completed years ago by jeweler Glenn Spiro, based in London. He designed the earrings, which are framed and supported by a diamond halo around the clip. The earrings now belong to Barron London.

It is believed that this heirloom was part of Spiro's Old World Materials collection. Which transformed various objects – including a 62-carat emerald from Colombia and gold from the Baoulé tribe of West Africa – into jewelry. According to Only Natural Diamonds. .

«You can wear something around your neck that dates back thousands of years. But it remains modern and cool,» Spiro told Galeria magazine in a 2025 interview.

Jewelry company Barron London, which subsequently acquired the earrings from Spiro, stated to CNN that the earrings are made in a way that does not damage the original items in any way. «Cultural heritage rightfully sparks great discussions and we welcome dialogue about provenance, preservation, and appreciation of craftsmanship,» it adds.

The social media comments about Zendaya and her earrings are truly numerous, with two main groups. Mainly those who are against them and the few who defend her.

«These 3,000-year-old Iranian earrings should be returned to Iran or at least kept in a museum,» one commenter wrote. «No one has the right to use such ancient artifacts, as they are extremely valuable and represent an important part of humanity's cultural heritage.».

Someone else wrote: «I am exhausted by the constant «disrespect» towards other countries,» and someone else: «As an archaeology student, I HATE THIS. They should be in a museum.».

«While I'm glad they're preserved, shouldn't ancient artifacts be in a museum? I think these should be in a museum, but that's just my opinion,» another fan wrote.

On Reddit, someone wrote: «I love Zendaya, but I don't think 3,000-year-old jewelry should be loaned out to others. To anyone. That's really crazy, haha.».

«Great, but something's off about wearing such an item. Unless these items are common,» someone else wrote.

«Why not just wear a replica?» a Reddit user asked.

«I love it, but the designer should have been more responsible and not used a valuable historical piece as an earring for a movie premiere,» someone noted. «As an Iranian, I find this whole situation deeply disturbing. In this personal essay, Lebanese jewelry designer Nada Ghazal reflects on creating her Whispers of Joy collection amidst war, loss, and uncertainty. Revealing how returning to creativity became an act of healing and a conscious choice to embrace joy.

I've always translated my feelings, sensations, and stories into elegant jewelry. But there's never a scheduled moment where I sit down to design a collection. It happens in between everything else, while I'm working, moving, talking, living. I write as feelings overwhelm me and design whatever complements my words. I shape little ideas in clay in the middle of a meeting, almost as if catching a feeling before it disappears. It's not a separate time or space, but part of the flow of the day. And when it's time to create a collection, I gather all my notes and papers. I shape the theme, finalize the drawings, and begin production. That's when I return, refine, and complete what I initially only felt fleetingly.

The beginning of 2026 was light and joyful for me. There was a shift from 2025, which had felt heavier as I was still carrying things I was processing from before. I started expressing what I felt on paper through words and sketches. My lines were light, fluid, almost effortless. There was a sense of joy within them. At that moment, I thought about creating a collection titled «Joy».

Then March came, the war started again in Lebanon, and everything changed. Although I was in London, part of my heart belongs to Lebanon. And when Lebanon hurts, I hurt too.

My sketches started to change. The lines that were light began to lose their ease. They became heavier, more reserved, less confident. In April, we lost two family members to the war. I didn't have time to grieve; life had to go on with its deadlines and demands. In May I had my biggest show of the year in Las Vegas, so I had to keep going.

There's always a strange silence in moments like these. When your life asks you to stand before the eyes of the world, visible and present. While internally, you hold a sorrow that isn't clear where to go. Usually, at this stage of the process, I'm in my studio in Beirut, turning sketches into 3D forms. So that I can feel them, test them, and perfect them before the final process.

This time, I wasn't there due to the war. So I sent all my plans to Beirut and asked the team to proceed with the casting. Fearing a result I couldn't fully feel, I made the decision to go to Beirut on May 2nd. Three weeks before my main event, for which I still had so much to prepare.

As soon as I arrived at the studio, I had a moment of clarity. I looked at my unfinished work and immediately understood that I needed to change course. I made a conscious decision to bring joy back into my life and weave it into my work. Thus, creating a collection that exudes joy, vibrancy, and dynamism. I returned to the initial trail of February, to the first instinct, to the first lightness, to the first whisper of an idea before everything else entered the process. With this return, the process itself became healing. It allowed me to reconnect with myself through the creative act.

For two weeks, day and night in Beirut, we worked instinctually, quickly moving from drawing to creation and refinement. It felt less like invention and more like reclaiming a language I'd temporarily lost. In that space, I felt joy again. In that process, I understood something more clearly than before.

That emotions are visitors, that joy is a fleeting moment, that it comes in fragments like everything else, and that sometimes we have to invite it back into our lives.

Thus, the «Whispers of Joy» collection was born. From joy. «Whispers of Joy» was born from a belief I hold deep within me: that even in uncertain times, we can still choose to create, to imagine, and to invite moments of light into our lives. And I hope that everyone who chooses to wear it will feel joy in their own way.

Scientists have discovered an impressive new cave with rare geological formations in the limestone mountains of Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam.

The discovery has already attracted the interest of the scientific community, as it offers new insights into the ancient karst landscape of the region and the geological processes that continue to shape it.

The cave was named Thang, meaning «Cave of Victory.» Inside, researchers found extensive halls, impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Also, intricate rock formations and mineral deposits created over millions of years. Its discovery enriches the park's already large catalog of geological treasures.

The rare «pearls»

The most important find is the rare «cave pearls.» Smooth, luminous white, and almost perfectly spherical mineral formations. They were found in unusually large concentrations within natural rock basins.

These «pearls» form over thousands of years as mineral-rich water repeatedly deposits thin layers of calcium carbonate around tiny particles. Over time, almost perfectly spherical structures are created.

Although similar formations can appear in limestone caves in various regions of the world, experts point out that such a high concentration of them in Thang is extremely unusual. Even experienced speleology teams rarely encounter deposits of comparable extent.

Beyond their beauty, the «pearls» are an indication that extremely stable geological and hydrological conditions prevailed in the cave for a long time. Their abundance, combined with the imposing stalactites, stalagmites, and excellently preserved limestone formations, makes the cave an important field for future geological research.

Unexplored underground treasures

Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is known for its extensive network of caves, underground rivers, and spectacular karst formations. However, much of the underground landscape remains unexplored, despite decades of caving expeditions and international scientific research.

Scientists estimate that further exploration may reveal additional geological features, as well as hitherto unknown species of organisms adapted to life underground. At the same time, the discovery highlights the need to protect fragile cave ecosystems, as even minor human interventions can destroy formations that took thousands of years to create.

Fluorescence

The fluorescence of diamonds is one of their most discussed, yet misunderstood, characteristics. Although often considered a negative trait, it is actually a natural phenomenon that, under certain conditions, can positively impact both their appearance and commercial value.

When the term «fluorescence» appears in diamond grading reports or online, it usually leaves most buyers confused. What exactly is fluorescence, and should it affect your choice when buying a diamond? The truth is, most people misunderstand fluorescence, which is one of the most complex and captivating characteristics of a natural diamond. The informed buyer can leverage fluorescence to gain beauty, rarity, and even value benefits.

Fluorescence is not a treatment or enhancement. It is a natural characteristic that reflects a diamond's geological history and is most commonly found in natural diamonds, where it can also serve as an indicator of natural origin.

Fluorescence is the property of certain diamonds to emit visible light when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This light, usually blue, ceases to be emitted as soon as the UV source is removed, which distinguishes fluorescence from phosphorescence, a phenomenon quite rare in natural diamonds.

On a scientific level, the phenomenon is due to imperfections in the diamond's crystal lattice and the presence of trace elements such as nitrogen, boron, and aluminum. During the absorption of ultraviolet energy, electrons are excited and re-emit part of the energy as visible light.

Approximately one-third of natural diamonds exhibit some degree of fluorescence. The most common color is blue, but yellow, white, green, orange, and even red fluorescence are encountered less frequently.

Gemological laboratories classify fluorescence into five intensity grades: None, Faint, Medium, Strong, and Very Strong. This classification is based on laboratory observation under controlled conditions of ultraviolet lighting.

The effect of fluorescence on a diamond's appearance depends directly on its base color tone. In diamonds of grade I and below, blue fluorescence can optically counteract the yellowish hue, making them appear whiter in natural light.

Conversely, in high color-purity diamonds (D–F), strong fluorescence is often considered undesirable, as a small percentage of them may exhibit a milky or oily appearance, reducing their brilliance and transparency. This percentage is extremely low and does not justify the myth that diamonds with fluorescence are of lower quality.

Consumer psychology also plays an important role. Myths surrounding fluorescence often lead to the unwarranted rejection of quality diamonds. Proper information and visual inspection in natural light are crucial.

Fluorescence began to concern us when a large quantity of fluorescent diamonds was discovered at the Premier mine in South Africa. From there, the term «premier» arose to describe light yellow diamonds with strong blue fluorescence. Similarly, the term «jager» referred to diamonds from the Jagerfontein mine, also in South Africa, which produced a high percentage of colorless stones with strong fluorescence. These diamonds were known as «blue-white» (Blue Blanc) and had a higher price. This was due to the prevailing belief that fluorescence added value to higher color grade diamonds.

However, the positive associations connected with the term «blue-white» began to erode when the trade started selling lower-color diamonds with the «blue-white» label. In the Greek market, we often encounter the term Blue-Blanc for diamonds sold up until the late 1970s. These diamonds were usually slightly yellowish with a strong fluorescence that masked their slightly yellowish hue. They were quite popular, both because of their more attractive price due to their actual hue, and because of their name, which gave them French elegance.

The negative view of fluorescence began when it was revealed that laboratories in South Korea had overestimated the color of fluorescent stones in the early 1990s. Local consumers suddenly realized that their stones were overvalued and stopped buying fluorescent stones.

Exactly the same thing happened when it was revealed that the American laboratory had overestimated diamonds exhibiting fluorescence for several years. Up to 3 color grades due to the use of lamps with strong UV light during the examination process.

Around the same time, a large volume of diamonds began to circulate on the market. Diamonds that exhibited fluorescence, mainly from mines in Russia.

Is Diamond Fluorescence Good or Bad After All?;

Fluorescence is not a flaw. The structural integrity of a diamond remains unaffected by fluorescence. Fluorescence emerges naturally from within the diamond, representing its complex and captivating formation process. Some collectors and connoisseurs even seek it out for its rarity and visual appeal. Especially when it glows intensely under ultraviolet light, making the diamond appear almost alive.

For quite some time, the phenomenon we've nicknamed "semi-permanent" in the lab has been appearing frequently. At nail salons, UV lamps are used to dry manicured nails. Often, women wear their rings. And naturally, the UV light excites some of the diamonds set in the jewelry, causing them to appear blue.

In conclusion, diamond fluorescence is a distinctive natural characteristic. It reveals an additional story about the stone and its natural formation. The presence of fluorescence in diamonds should generally not deter you from purchasing them. But it can actually persuade you to buy one. Proper evaluation should be done in conjunction with the diamond's other characteristics. With knowledge and experience, it can turn into a significant advantage both aesthetically and financially.

Therefore, the next time you shop for the perfect diamond and see “Fluorescence: Medium Blue” on your diamond grading report, don't hesitate. This diamond could be an excellent choice for this very reason. A diamond should always be seen in person and not judged solely on a gemological assessment or a photograph.

Before the 1990s, certifications were common only for diamonds over one carat with high clarity and color grades. This began to change in the mid-1990s with the development of online diamond trading platforms. Gemological reports became essential for remote transactions, especially for international business-to-business trade, as India began to handle the majority of diamond cutting.

Soon, even smaller diamonds of lower quality were sent to laboratories for certification. Clearly, many of the diamonds of all sizes that received certification during that period by those laboratories would today receive a lower grade regarding the categorization of their color intensity.

Under normal lighting conditions, fluorescence is invisible to observers, including professional gemologists. A subtle but sometimes dramatic glow only becomes visible under ultraviolet light. A diamond's blue fluorescence can actually have a positive visual effect under normal lighting conditions. And this positive effect is even more noticeable in diamonds that have lower color grades ranging from the I color and below.

Since blue is the complementary color of yellow, a diamond with a faint yellow hue can appear whiter or more colorless when viewed from above. Because of this, medium to strong fluorescent diamonds can appear more appealing than non-fluorescent diamonds that share the same color grade.

Sunlight contains ultraviolet rays, so theoretically, diamond fluorescence can be activated outdoors. However, in practice, fluorescence is almost never noticeable in ordinary daylight. The intensity of UV radiation in natural daylight is much weaker than that of a gemological UV lamp. This means any fluorescent reaction is at best subtle and usually invisible to the naked eye. Even diamonds with strong or very strong fluorescence will look completely normal outdoors.

For some years now, the prevailing view has been that fluorescence can make a diamond appear «milky» or «oily.» However, although some share this concern, scientific studies of fluorescence have revealed that less than 0.2% of fluorescent diamonds exhibit this cloudiness, and even then, it is often due to unrelated internal characteristics rather than the fluorescence itself. Haze in a fluorescent diamond is an extremely rare phenomenon.
