The mystery surrounding the sale of L'Incomparable has been solved. Further details have been revealed about the record-breaking sale of L'Incomparable, the world's most expensive necklace.

In January 2013, Lebanese designer Mouawad Jewellers sold a necklace with the largest flawless diamond in the world. The yellow L'Incomparable, 407-carat diamond with fantastic colour.

The buyer, according to a Luxury Launches report, was Nita Ambani the wife of billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani. She bought the necklace for $55 million $US ($82 million $AU).

Ambani then gifted the necklace to her daughter-in-law, Shloka Mehta, for her wedding to her son Akash Ambani in 2019.

“Aside from being a stunning keepsake, the necklace is also a stunning creation in its own right. The huge diamond is set in a design of 18-carat rose gold branches. These she has also decorated with another 229 carats of white diamonds,” writes Demetrius Simms of Robb Report.

“Since 1990, Guinness World Records has honoured Mouawad an impressive five times. His most recent entry is The Flower of Eternity Jewelry Coffer. That is the world's most expensive jewelry set, featuring 542 carats of white and yellow diamonds.».

What happened to the necklace after its purchase in 2013 is not clear. However, they later recut L'Incomparable into the 303-carat Golden Canary, which they sold at auction in December.

He adds: «And with a story like this, you can only wonder what record-breaking collectible they could find next.».

The diamond was discovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1980s as a rough 890-carat diamond.
