The first ring designed from a single diamond!

This ring is a milestone in the history of the diamond industry, as it is the first ring designed entirely from a single diamond.

A diamond ring designed by world-renowned designer Marc Newson and Apple's outgoing head of design, Sir Jony Ive, has been sold at a Sotheby's auction during Miami Design Week.

The anonymous buyer who acquired it had to pay the astronomical sum of $256,250.

But what makes this ring so special?;

The ambitious designers of this unique ring came up with the idea of creating a ring from a single diamond, which could be adjusted to the dimensions desired by its owner. The idea became a challenge and the project of Mark Newson and Sir Johnny Ive was a complete success. Today, this ring is a landmark in the history of the diamond industry. It is the first ring designed entirely from a single diamond that can be worn!

The impressive design process

As reported by APE, the diamond ring was cut from a single diamond stone. The stone was made at the US Diamond Foundry, using a plasma reactor and a scientific process through atomic control.

Through this process they succeeded in creating an adamantine stone large enough to cut the elaborate ring without the need for metal parts. The ring was made especially for (RED). Organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS.

At an auction held by Sotheby's auction house, the organization's chief executive officer, Jennifer Lotito, said:

«This is much more than just a ring. It's an object of absolute beauty and sustainability that is going to save lives. We are so grateful to Johnny, Mark and Diamond Foundry for providing exceptional design and art to help end AIDS.».
