That's what makes this bespoke ring by Alice Cicolini the perfect piece of jewellery for the last Britt's Pick of 2023. It's full of holiday - in both senses of the word. The piece covers the holiday as a noun with its cheerful, lush presence. For the word, “holiday,” the ring showcases a look worthy of the tropics. Featuring exotic flowers and a zig-zag chevron design for added beauty to the eye.
“So this is a bespoke piece for a client in New York. He had purchased the emerald trapiche and was always a little nervous about putting it on. Until we met and he decided that working with me. It was what he wanted for the stone,” Cicolini tells JCK. “It's a pretty big stone. I've only encountered trapiche much smaller than it and also it can be fragile, as of course all emeralds are. So it required special care.”.

The client was inspired by some of Cicolini's previous works. The result is a blend of Cicolini's design arsenal that creates something completely new.
“The boulle shape was created for the client as a hybrid between Chevron With Flowers and a style I was making at the time in the Jaipur collection,” says Cicolini. “I was inspired by both Chinese and Georgian fabrics. But also the idea of flowers falling on a geometric structure, as well as the pattern behind it. I wanted to recreate that but without having gold lines separating the background from the foreground. My enameller in London developed this technique with me. Something that can only be achieved using lacquer enamel.”.
While the ring was made to order, other styles using elements like these are available from the London-based designer, as is a jewellery collection in collaboration with Muzo Emeralds.
